Tinitukoy ni Jose ang adoption ng UN Human Rights Council (HRC) ng isang resolusyon na isinulong ng Pilipinas na pinamagatang “Promoting and Protecting the Enjoyment of Human Rights of Seafarers” kamakailan.
“This is a victory in the Philippines’ quest to protect the welfare of almost two million seafarers, over a quarter of whom are Filipinos,” sinabi ni DFA Undersecretary Charles Jose.
Ito ang kauna- unahang resolusyon na ipinagtibay sa UN HRC para sa mga seafarers ng buong mundo na kinabibilangan ng daan-libong Pinoy. Ang nasabing resolution ay nanawagan sa lahat ng state parties, kinatawan ng shipowners at mga seafarers na sumunod sa pagpapatupad ng Maritime Labor Convention para magkaroon ng “safe and decent living and working conditions for all seafarers”.
“This resolution affirms that safe and decent living and working conditions at sea is a human rights imperative”, ayon kay Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo.
