Sinegundahan ng Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) ang panukala na inihain sa Kongreso na gawing optional ang senior high school.
Base sa ulat ng Businessworld kaugnay sa ginanap na pagdinig ng House Committe on Basic Education and Culture kamakailan, mahalaga na repasuhin ng gobyerno ang K-12 curriculum upang mabigyang halaga ang mga technical at vocational (techvoc) training programs, mapalawak ang kaalaman ng mga senior high school students, at mabigyan sila ng option ang mga ito na makakuha ng working experience bago tumuntong ng college.
“We in the MAP support the bill introduced that seeks to examine the K-12 (Kindergarten to Grade 12) system and replace it with a K+10+2 act,” pahayag ni MAP CEO Conference Committee Chairperson Alma Rita R. Jimenez sa Mababang Kapulungan.
“The private sector (has a) continuing preference for hiring college or university graduates over those who finish K-12 primarily because those who finished Grades 11 and 12 still lack the competencies or skills at the level required for employment,” dagdag ni Jimenez.
Streamlining of K-12 curriculum
Giit pa niya, kailangang gawing mas simple ang K-12 sa pamamagitan ng pag-amiyenda sa Republic Act No. 10533 (Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013) kung saan nadagdagan ng dalawang taon ang basic education upang gawing “globally competitive” ang mga Pinoy graduates at kalaunan, madali silang makahahanap ng trabaho.
Sa pamamagitan ng House Bill 7893, ipinanukala ni Pasig Rep. Roman T. Romulo ang “multiple education pathways” upang maitaguyod ang mga programa ng Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) na pakikinabangan ng mga estudyante na nakatawid ng Grade 10.
Techvoc is “in”
“Meaning, when you reach Grades 10, 11 and 12, if you want to go to college, you’ll be under DepEd (Department of Education). If you want to go to techvoc (technical and vocational education), then enroll in TESDA,” ani Roman.
“We will require TESDA to upgrade itself,” paliwanag niya.
