Nagmistulang “laban-laban, bawi-bawi” ang tsunami alert na inilabas ng Phivolcs matapos ang naganap na magnitude 7.4 earthquake sa karagatan ng Surigao del Sur alas-10:37 ng gabi nitong Sabado, Disyembre 2.
Nang maganap ang malakas ng lindol na may lalim ng 25 kilometro, agad na inilabas ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) ang Tsunami Alert No. 1 bilang babala sa mga residente ng Surigao del Sur at Davao Oriental na pinangangambahang tatama sa dalawang lalawigan sa pagitan ng alas-10:37 hanggang alas-11:39 ng gabi.
“The people in the coastal areas of the following provinces are STRONGLY ADVISED TO IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE to higher grounds or move farther inland,” abiso ng Phivolcs.
“Owners of boats in harbors, estuaries, or shallow coastal water of the above-mentioned provinces should secure their boats and move away from the waterfront. Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore until further advised,” ayon sa ahensiya.
Subalit pagsapit ng alas-3:23 ng madaling araw ngayong Linggo, Disyembre 3, binawi naman PhiIvolcs tsunami warning.
“The last recorded tsunami wave arrival in the Philippines occurred at 02:52 AM (PST) at Hinatuan-Bislig Bay Station on Mawes Island. This means that the tsunami threat associated with this earthquake has now largely passed the Philippines,” ayon sa ahensiya.
