Sinaluduhan ng Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) ng isang grupo ng 34 na local government units (LGUs) na nagpahayag ng suporta sa pamahalaan para proteksiyunan ang West Philippine Sea (WPS).
“They came together to express support in safeguarding the Philippine Sea at tinitignan namin anong mga kailangan nila – mga patubig ba ito, mga pa-ilaw, etc., so sunod-sunod ito,” sinabi ni DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos.
Ayon kay Abalos, ang DILG ay nakatanggap ng mga “manifestations to resolutions” mula sa LGUs sa ginanap na “National Summit of the West Philippine Sea LGUs.”
Sa isang press conference sa Quezon City noong Sabado, Abril27, sinabi ni DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. na ang mga LGUs na nasa coastal areas ng WPS na nagsama- sama para bigyang diin ang sovereign rights ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.
“At dahil dito, it was highlighted by the formulation of provincial follow up actions as their commitment to paving the way for a more secured, sustainable, prosperous West Philippine Sea. Ito ‘yung mga LGUs facing the coastal area of the West Philippine Sea,” dagdag pa niya.
