Sinimulan na ng Office of the Ombudsman ang imbestigasyon sa diumano’y ilegal na pagpatatayo ng resort sa Chocolate Hills, isang protected area sa Bohol.
“Kahapon ay nagsimula nang lumakad ‘yung aming mga imbestigador. Isa ay pumunta sa opisina ng regional executive director sa Cebu, ‘yung tatlo naman ay pumunta ng Bohol, pumunta sa bayan, at nagkakalap kami ng mga dokumento,” ayon kay Ombudsman Samuel Martires.
Sinabi ni Martires ngayong Martes, Marso 19, sa panayam sa Dobol B TV, na umaasa silang kaagad na matapos ang case buildup pagkatapos ng Semana Santos para makapagpatuloy sila sa preliminary investigation.
Ang Proclamation 1037, na inilabas ng yumaong Pangulong Fidel Ramos noong Hulyo 1, 1997, ay nagdeklara sa Chocolate Hills bilang National Geological Monument at Protected Landscape.
“However, the declaration of the area as a protected area may impose certain restrictions or regulations on land use and development within the protected area, even for privately owned lands,” paliwanag ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
