Inamin ni Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla na malaki ang nakukuhang confidential funds ng Witness Protection Program (WPP) na direktang pinamamahalaan ng kanyang tanggapan.
Sa naging sagot ng kalihim sa tanong ni Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, kung bakit hindi gawing item ang pondong pantustos sa WPP, sinabi ni Remulla na mayroong ilang gastos sa WPP na hindi maaaring idaan sa ordinaryong procurement process.
“Your honors, many of these things, we cannot do the ordinary procurement system like the safehouses. We cannot have it advertised, we cannot have it on record. The allowances that we give, [and] the people that we give allowances to, we cannot reveal them. And the security personnel also, Mr. Chairman [Sonny Angara]. It’s really a confidential. The nature of the job is very dangerous, Mr. Chairman,” ani Remulla.
Sa kabilang banda, nilinaw naman ni Remulla na ang suweldo ng security personnel na nagbabantay sa witnesses at whistle blowers ay line item naman sa pondo ng ahensiya.
