The SUV (sports utility vehicle) driver, who allegedly pulled a gun during a road altercation with a taxi driver in Valenzuela City last month, has surrendered to Mayor Wess Gatchalian along with his weapon.
Gatchalian presented before the media the road rage suspect, Marlon Malabute, who showed up at the mayor’s office wearing a cap and a facemask, was accompanied by his legal counsel, Atty. Eliza Barquez.
During the press conference, Barquez said her client will only air his side at the “proper forum.”
According to Gatchalian, Malabute, driver of a Toyota Fortuner that was allegedly sideswept by the taxi cab driven by Henry Ong, surrendered his 9mm pistol to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Firearms and Explosives Division (FED) before he turned himself in.
In the conduct of follow up investigation, police authorities also found out that Malabute is the third owner of the Fortuner with license plate NBB 3135 although its vehicle registration has not yet been transferred under his name.
The PNP-FEO earlier revoked the gun license of Malabute after he was positively identified by several witnesses based on footages from CCTV cameras as the person who pulled a gun during an altercation with Ong along Faustino St., Barangay Puturin, Valenzuela city early morning on August 19.
On the other hand, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) revoked the driver’s license of Malabute for three traffic violations – reckless, improper driver to operate motor vehicle, and obstruction of traffic.
Ong earlier vowed that he will pursue the criminal case against Malabute to put an end to the road rage incidents in the country.
