Kasabay ng paggunita ng ika-56 anibersaryo ng Communist Party of the Philippines nitong Huwebes, Disyembre 26, hinimok ni Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., chief of staff ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), ang mga natitirang miyembro ng CPP-New People’s Army (NPA) na sumuko na sa mga awtoridad upang makapagbagong buhay.
“Today, the CPP-NPA (New People’s Army) faces a leadership vacuum, shrinking membership, and diminished operational capabilities. Despite this, the AFP remains vigilant against any attempts to disrupt the lives of law-abiding citizens,” sabi ni Brawner.
“We urge the remaining members of the CPP-NPA to abandon their armed struggle, reunite with their families, and contribute to peaceful and progressive communities,” dagdag ng heneral.
Sinabi ni Brawner na baldado na ang grupong komunista sa bansa dahil sa walang humpay na opensiba ng military na sinabayan ng “whole-of-nation” approach upang mahikayat ang mga natitirang miyembro na sumuko na sa pamahalaan.
Tiniyak ng AFP chief na makatatanggap ng tulong mula sa pamahalaan ang mga susukong rebelde upang maibalik ang kanilang normal na buhay.
“The AFP, in collaboration with other agencies, is committed to supporting those who surrender through various reintegration programs by the government. Let us work together for lasting peace and a better future for all Filipinos,” giit niya.
Itinatag ang CPP noong Disyembre 26, 1968 ng yumaong Jose Ma. Sison, isang propesor ng political science, upang pabagsakin ang rehimen ng noo’y Pangulong Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Sr.
