Tinitiyak ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na buburahin nito ang natitirang 11 na natitirang New People’s Army (NPA) guerilla fronts hanggang matapos ang taong 2024.
Ito ang naging pahayag ni National Security Adviser Secretary Eduardo Año kahapon sa isang press briefing sa Malacañang matapos ang kanyang pakikipagpulong sa mga opisyal ng AFP nitong Huwebes, Abril 4.
Ang anti-communist roadmap ay isasagawa hanggang 2028 kasama ng estratehiya ng AFP sa kanyang transition bilang isang external defense posture mula sa pagiging internal defense posture, dagdag ni Año.
“So kahit na nagta-transition iyong ating Armed Forces from internal to external, marami pa ring role ang Armed Forces dito. Particularly, ang ating goal is to dismantle the 11 weakened guerilla fronts up to the end of the year and this will also include dismantling 26 vertical units and party organs within the 27 sub-regional committees and 40 regional party committees,” sabi ni Año.
“So the PNP and the Armed Forces will work closer because some areas na cleared na will have to be handled by the Philippine National Police as the Armed Forces transition into the external defense mode,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi naman ni AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. na ang puwersang militar ay merong itinakdang deadline para sa mga ground units upang buwagin ang mga natitira pang NPA guerrilla units, kasama na ang guerrilla fronts, vertical units, regional party committees, at sub-regional committees.
Ang mga targets ng AFP na ito ay nangahulugan ng pagtaas ng bilang ng mga armed encounters sa ng mga security forces at mga insurgents pati na rin sa mga encounters sa mga organisasyong terrorista sa bansa.
