Sa kanyang New Year’s message na ipinarinig sa mga diplomat sa Vatican, sinabi ni Pope Francis na ang surrogacy ay isang seryosong paglabag sa dignidad ng isang ina at sanggol.
“In this regard, I deem deplorable the practice of so-called surrogate motherhood, which represents a grave violation of the dignity of the woman and the child, based on the exploitation of situations of the mother’s material needs,” giit ng lider ng Simbahang Katolika.
Iginiit ng 87-anyos na Santo Papa na nagsisimula ang paglabag sa buhay ng isang hindi pa naisisilang na sanggol sa sapupunan ng kanyang ina, na hindi dapat na itinatrato bilang “object of trafficking.”

“A child is always a gift and never the basis of a commercial contract. Consequently, I express my hope for an effort by the international community to prohibit this practice universally,” dagdag niya.
