Nagbabala ang International Monetary Fund (IMF) nitong Martes, Oktubre 24, na ang patuloy na digmaan sa pagitan ng Israel at Palestinian militant group na Hamas ay maaaring makaapekto sa mga presyo ng enerhiya at remittance flow sa Pilipinas.
“If it were to escalate to the region, it could have severe consequences for energy prices in the country being an oil importer,” ayon kay IMF resident representative Ragnar Gudmundsson.
“The Philippines is very strongly reliant on remittances from foreign workers,” dagdag ni Gudmundsson. “If those remittances were to be dried, this could have an impact on the balance of payments on the current account, and also on providing support to households here in the Philippines,”
Sinabi ni Gudmundsson na maaaring makaapekto ito sa consumption at demand sa mga pangunahing produkto sa Pilipinas dahil ang mga remittance ay kumakatawan sa humigit-kumulang 7-8 porsiyento ng gross domestic product ng bansa.
