Sa botong 232, inaprubahan ng House of Representatives ang Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Bill na ikinatuwa ng mga child rights advocates.
Sa isang pahayag, pinuri ng Child Rights Network (CRN) at Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD) ang pagapruba bilang bagong batas ng Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Bill na naglalayong wakasan ang pagbubuntis ng mga menor-de-edad sa bansa.
“We celebrate this historic milestone with the young voices consistently highlighting the urgency of addressing adolescent pregnancy. Every child has the right to health and the right to finish their education and reach their dreams. Without government intervention, early and unintended pregnancies most often upend these rights,” ani Romeo Dongeto, convenor ng CRN at Executive Director ng PLCPD.
Ayon kay Dongeto, nakaaalarma na ang pagbubuntis ng mga adolenscent na may edad 10 – 14 sa bansa.
Bukod pa rito, kapuna-puna rin ang datos ng CRN kung saan makikita na karamihan ng mga lalaking nakabuntis sa mga menor-de-edad ay malaki ang tanda kaysa sa mga ito na nagpalakas sa posibilidad na malaking bilang sa mga ito ay biktima ng sexual abuse.
“This is a national crisis that demands immediate, comprehensive action. Part of why adolescent pregnancy prevention is so important is the bill’s provisions on adolescent male involvement and comprehensive social protection against sexual and gender-based violence,” ani Dongeto.
