Isa na ang Pilipinas sa mga bansang nangunguna sa produksyon ng tuna sa buong mundo, ayon sa Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Ipinagmalaki ni Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Fisheries Drusila Esther Bayate sa kaniyang mensahe sa pagsasara ng 23nd National Tuna Congress and Trade Exhibit na ginanap sa SM City General Santos Trade Halls sa General Santos City, na umabot na sa 475,000 metriko tonelada ang produksiyon ng tuna ang sa bansa noong 2022.
“With unwavering determination, we have elevated the Philippines to the ranks of the world’s leading tuna producers. Last year’s impressive production of over 475,000 metric tons (MT) speaks to our diligence and the richness of our marine biodiversity — a remarkable achievement for a country of our size,” ani Bayate sa kaniyang talumpati.
Sa naturang bilang, mahigit 107,000 metriko toneladang tuna naman ang nailuwas at naipagbili sa ibang bansa, aniya.
Batay sa pinakahuling datos ng BFAR, ang tuna ang bumubuo sa 10.25 porsiyento ng produksyon ng isda sa bansa noong 2022.
