Ipinag-utos ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. nitong Martes, Agosto 29, sa Bureau of Customs (BOC) na palakasin ang kampanya laban sa rice hoarding at illegal importation matapos madiskubre ang tone-toneladang bigas na itinatago umano sa tatlong warehouses sa Bulacan.
Sinabi ni BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio na ang letters of authority ay naihatid sa Great Harvest Rice Mill, San Pedro, at FS Rice Mill warehouses sa Barangay San Juan, Balagtas sa Bulacan, na napapailalim sa visitial power ng ahensiya.
Napag-alaman ng BOC na ang mga bodega ay nag-angkat ng bigas ng 202,000 sako ng bigas mula sa Cambodia, Vietnam, at Thailand na tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng P505 milyon, ani Rubio.
“The owners and operators of the warehouses were directed to submit proofs of payment of duties and taxes due the subject imported sacks of rice within 15 days from the implementation of the LOA or until September 8, 2023,” ayon kay Rubio.
“Per the directive of the President, ang gagawin natin ay we will validate all warehouses that are storing imported rice and then upon validation, we will then issue letters of authority to conduct inspection in these warehouses,” dagdag ni Rubio.
Sinabi ni Rubio na kakailanganin ng BOC ng tugon mula sa mga may-ari ng warehouse sa loob ng 15 araw bago sila maglabas ng warrant of seizure at detention para kumpiskahin ang inangkat na bigas. Ang mga talakayan sa pagbebenta nito sa merkado ay hindi malinaw sa ngayon.
Sinabi ng BOC chief na nakuha nila ang impormasyon hinggil sa nakaimbak na bigas sa Bulacan at na-validate ito sa pamamagitan ng kanilang intelligence group.
