Bagaman patuloy ang sigalot sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China bunsod ng pinag-aagawang teritoryo sa West Philippine Sea (WPS), nilinaw ni Special Envoy for China Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr. na walang balak ang bansa na makipagdigma sa Beijing.
Sa kaniyang naging pahayag sa social media platform na X (dating Twitter), sinabi ni Locsin na nananatiling magkaibigan ang dalawang bansa.
“The Philippines has zero interest in going to war with China which for now it suspects will only prompt the US to offer its good offices to broker a peace between the Philippines and China which is not needed because we are at peace with each other though there maybe something for the US brokering a superfluous and redundant peace. We’re not stupid,” ani Locsin.
Samantala, sinabi ni Jose Manuel “Babes” Romualdez, ang embahador ng Pilipinas sa Estados Unidos, na hindi kailanman naging opsiyon ang digmaan dahil mas magdudulot ito ng mas malaking trahedya, hindi lamang sa rehiyon, kundi maging sa buong mundo.
Sa kabilang banda, pinabulaanan ni Romualdez ang paratang ng Beijing na ang Estados Unidos ang dahilan kung bakit nagkakaroon ng sigalot sa lugar, pagtukoy sa WPS.
