Nagbabala si National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) chief Bill Nelson hinggil sa balak ng China na manguna sa moon exploration program bunsod ng mga umano’y ilegal na aktibidad ng huli sa South China Sea.
“We’re in a space race with China,” ani Nelson sa isang press con noong Martes, Agosto 8, hinggil sa paglulunsad ng Artemis project ng US, na muling magdadala ng tao sa buwan sa taong 2025.
“You see the actions of the Chinese government on Earth. They go out and claim some international islands in the South China Sea and then they claim them as theirs and build military runways on them,” ani Nelson, tungkol sa mga pinag-aawayang territoryo sa South China Sea ng anim na bansa – Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan at China.
Naging maingay muli ang sigalot sa pagitan ng China at Pilipinas sa pinagtatalunang teritoryo sa South China Sea, na pumukaw sa buong mundo.
Ito ay may kinalaman sa umano’y pambu-bully ng Chinese Coast Guard sa mga tauhan ng Philippine Coast Guard at support boats nito na maghahatid ng pagkain at iba pang supply sa BRP Sierra Madre na naka-posisyon sa Ayungin Shoal.
“So naturally, I don’t want China to get to the (Moon’s) south pole first with humans and then say ‘this is ours, stay out,’ like they’ve done with the Spratly Islands,” pahayag ni Nelson.
