Dapat ipagpatuloy pa rin ang impeachment proceedings laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte kahit pa magbitiw ito sa puwesto, ayon kay House Committee on Justice chairperson at Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro.
“For me… the impeachment proceedings should continue because there are two principal penalties if convicted: one is removal, the other is perpetual disqualification to hold any public office,” saad ni Luistro.
Binigyang-diin ni Luistro na may dalawang parusa sa impeachable officials kung sila ay ma-convict: removal from office at perpetual disqualification sa paghawak ng anumang pampublikong posisyon.
Ipinaliwanag rin niya na bagamat mawawalan ng bisa ang parusang removal from office kung magbitiw sa puwesto si VP Sara, hindi umano nito maaalis ang pagtukoy kung dapat siyang pagbawalan na humawak ng anumang pwesto sa gobyerno.
“I think the penalty of perpetual disqualification needs to be resolved as well. And for us to be able to resolve that, it means that the impeachment proceedings must continue until the trial to the Senate, until they reach a decision of whether to convict or to acquit,” anang kongresista sa press conference nitong Miyerkules, Marso 18.
