Ayon sa human rights lawyer na si Atty. Neri Colmenares nitong Linggo, Abril 20, limitado na umano ang legal options ng kampo ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte para pigilan ang paglilitis sa kanya sa International Criminal Court (ICC).
“All of these cannot be used by former President Duterte to exclude him from criminal responsibility… So, the only thing left for them is jurisdiction and admissibility,” saad ni Colmenares.
Ito ay matapos ibasura ng ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I ang proposal ng British-Israeli lawyer at lead counsel ng dating pangulo na si Nicholas Kaufman na limitahan ang uri ng identification documents na maaaring ipakita ng mga drug war victim-survivors.
Inihayag ni Colmenares na maaari na lamang kuwestyunin ng kampo ni Duterte ang jurisdiction o ang admissibility ng kanyang kaso sa international tribunal sa gaganapin na confirmation of charges hearing sa Setyembre 23, 2025.
“You have to stop the trial right at the confirmation [of charges] hearing by claiming questions like admissibility or jurisdiction [because] the moment they lose on that argument, and charges are confirmed and the trial is set, that will go on,” paliwanag ni Colmenares.
