Itinanggi ng gobyerno China ang pagkakaroon ng mga “sleeper cell” nito sa Pilipinas kasunod ng mga ulat tungkol sa mga pinaghihinalaang Chinese firm na nagkukunwaring Amerikano o European companies na nagre-recruit ng mga retirado at aktibong sundalong Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng social media.
“The so-called ‘sleeper cells’ of China in the Philippines is nothing but fabrication,” sinabi ni Chinese Embassy in the Philippines spokesperson Ji Lingpeng.
Sa military terminology, ang “sleeper cell” ay ikonokonsiderang mga pugad ng mga terorista na kumikilos bilang mga undercover agent upang maghasik ng kaguluhan sa isang lugar.
“Instead, we see habitual meddling in other nations’ internal affairs, fostering domestic division and confrontation, and instigating ‘color revolutions’ by some country,” ani ni Lingpeng.
“Those are merely malicious speculation and groundless accusation against China with the purpose of inciting Sinophobic sentiments in the Philippines. We firmly oppose this,” dagdag pa ni Lingpeng.
Ayon naman sa Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), ang mga Chinese companies ay nag-aalok ng kanilang target na mga Pilipinong recruit na part-time na trabaho bilang mga analyst.
