Pirmado na ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. bilang isang ganap na batas ang ‘Philippine Salt Industry Development Act’ na target palakasin ang industriya ng asin sa bansa upang palakasin ang ekonomiya sa mga liblib na lugar.
“It is further the policy of the State to preserve, protect, and rehabilitate the natural environment in the actualization of its developmental policies,” nakasaad sa Republic Act No. 8172, o “An Act for Salt Iodization Nationwide (ASIN).”

Batay sa 23-pahinang batas, ang mga salt farmers ay bibigyan ng makabagong teknolohiya at tutulungan din ng gobyerno sa pananaliksik, financial assistance, produksyon, marketing, at iba pang mga serbisyong suporta upang buhayin ang industriya.
Magkakaroon naman ng Philippine Salt Industry Development Roadmap upang tiyaking maaabot ang layunin ng batas na nakatutok din sa mga layunin at patuloy na implementasyon ng Republic Act No. 8172.
Magtatatag din ang ‘Salt Council’ para sa unified at integrated implementation ng salt roadmap at mapabilis ang modernisasyon at industrialization ng Philippine salt industry na pamumunuan ng Department of Agriculture (DA).
