Pinangunahan ni Metropolitan Manila Development Academy (MMDA) Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes ang inagurasyon ng Motorcycle Riding Academy na matatagpuan sa kahabaan ng Meralco Avenue, Pasig City ngayong Setyembre 27.
Ayon sa MMDA, layunin ng Motorcycle Riding Academy na bawasan ang mga aksidente sa motorsiklo sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng theoretical at practical courses sa tama at ligtas na pagsakay sa motorsiklo.
Matatagpuan sa isang bakanteng property ng Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) sa kahabaan ng Julia Vargas Avenue, corner Meralco Avenue, sa Pasig City, ang riding school kung saan magbibigay ng libreng pagsasanay para sa mga aplikante na may edad 17 taong gulang pataas.
Mahigit sa 70 motorsiklo ang natanggap ng MMDA mula sa iba’t ibang ahensiya bilang donasyon para magamit ng mga student riders.
“Hindi ako naniniwala na ang ibang motorcycle riders ay likas na walang disiplina, bagkus kulang lamang sila sa kaalaman at edukasyon sa tamang paggamit ng daan, traffic rules and regulations, and proper driving skills. ‘Yan po ang hangad natin sa pagtatayo ng MC Riding Academy – bigyan ng edukasyon ang mga motorcycle riders at baguhin ang kanilang isipan,” pahayag ni Artes.
Inihayag ni Vice President at concurrent Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Duterte ang kanyang suporta sa MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy.
“Motorcycles are a common mode of transportation in Metro Manila and the rest of the nation, but they are also among the most vulnerable vehicles on the road. The academy will assist in mitigating risks by equipping riders with the necessary knowledge and abilities for riding safely,” sinabi ni Duterte, na isa ring motorcycle enthusiast.
“To save lives and reduce the number of motorcycle-related accidents on Metro Manila’s roads, I support the MMDA’s implementation of this initiative,” saad pa niya.
