Ipinapahiwatig ng naging desisyon ng Korte Suprema na hindi mag-isyu ng temporary restraining order (TRO) na maaaring magpatuloy ang House Committee on Justice sa mga nakatakdang impeachment hearing sa Abril 14, ayon kay retired SC Associate Justice Adolfo Azcuna.
“The message here is that the Supreme Court does not want at this stage to intervene in the proceedings in the House of Representatives at a committee level,” saad ni Azcuna.
Matatandaang naghain ng petition for certiorari si Vice President Sara Duterte sa Korte Suprema para humiling ng TRO laban sa impeachment proceedings ng nasabing komite.
Sa isang panayam sa programang ‘Headstart’ ng ANC noong Lunes, Abril 13, sinabi ni Azcuna na umaksyon ang Kamara sa impeachment laban kay VP Sara batay sa kanilang constitutional mandate na tukuyin kung mayroong probable cause para i-impeach ang ikalawang pangulo.
“So far, I think it has confined itself really to its constitutional duty to determine probable cause… The purpose of impeachment is to preserve the constitutional order in order that our officials will be reminded of their duty to render accounting to our people at all times,” sabi ni Azcuna.
