Naglunsad ng online petition ang mga estudyante ng University of Santo Tomas (UST) upang himukin ang unibersidad na ideklarang persona non grata ang ilan sa mga UST alumni na sangkot diumano sa katiwalian sa maanomalyang flood control projects.
“We call on UST and all Thomasians to support this petition in pursuit of truth and justice. Our nation suffers from floods and disasters made worse by corrupt leaders — grandstanding, dishonest politicians who must be held accountable and condemned,” panawagan ng mga estudyante ng UST.
Kabilang sa diumano’y dawit sa malawakang iregularidad ay si Sen. Joel Villanueva, na itinurong nasa likod ng umano’y budget insertions para sa flood control projects.
“Senator Villanueva has a record of repeated corruption cases. In 2016, he was dismissed by then Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales over the misuse of P10 million in pork barrel funds during his time as a congressman,” saad ni Brookes Relles, tagapagsalita ng UST chapter ng Youth Against Kurakot (YAK), nitong Biyernes, Setyembre 19.
Binatikos din ni Relles ang paulit-ulit umano na pagtatanggi at pagsasabi ng “contradicting excuses” ni Villanueva kaugnay sa flood control scam, “He claimed he never lobbied DPWH officials, only to be exposed for following up projects with a DPWH district engineer.”
Bukod kay Villanueva, nananawagan din ang UST students sa pagdeklara ng persona non grata sa isa pang sangkot umano sa flood control scam; si dating DPWH Bulacan 1st District Engineer (DE) Henry Alcantara.
Binanggit din ng Thomasians ang ginawang pag-amin ni Alcantara sa pagpirma umano nito sa P55 milyong ‘ghost’ flood control project sa Bulacan.
